The team has been a member of the Eastern League since they were founded in 1967. It didn't take long for the franchise to enjoy success. Originally known as the Reading Phillies, they won the Eastern League championship in only their second year of existence. After another league championship in 1973, however, the Phillies went on a lengthy playoff drought that ran through 1983. The Fightin Phillies climbed back to the top of the Eastern Conference in 1995 and another in 2001.
