Parker's previous background in music and fascination with Mormonism planted the seed of this musical. Meeting esteemed playwright Robert Lopez sealed the deal and the three began working on the idea straight away, meeting up between schedules for nearly eight years until its premiere in March 2011.

The play follows the adventures of star missionary-in-training Elder Kevin Price and his less successful partner Elder Arnold Cunningham. The pair's expectations are deflated after learning that they'll be spending their two year mission in Uganda where they join a group of unsuccessful missionaries who have failed at a converting a blaspheming, suffering village ruled by a paranoid warlord to Mormonism. Certain that this is his path to success, Price takes on the challenge of converting the village with his less studious sidekick at his heels.
