The Oklahoma Sooners Women's Gymnastics team’s 2019 season was one for the history books. The Sooners were undefeated for the season (32-0), were ranked No. 1 all season and received the second-highest overall team score in NCAA history in the national finals (198.3375) to earn their fourth national championship trophy. Decorated seniors Maggie Nichols, Jade Degouveia and Bre Showers have one more opportunity to bring another championship home to Norman. Kelly Garrison was crowned all-around champion in 17 of the 18 dual meets she participated in during the 1987 season before going on to win the NCAA all-around title in back-to-back years (1987-1988). She earned the gold medal in the NCAA Championships on uneven bars and balance beam in 1988. Taylor Spears became the first Oklahoma Sooner to be named NCAA Champion since Garrison in 2014 by taking the podium for the balance beam. Nicole Lehrmann scored a 9.950 on the uneven bars at the 2017 NCAA Championships to earn a Sooner national title. Current Sooners Maggie Nichols and Brenna Dowell have each claimed multiple national championships. Nichols, the most decorated of Oklahoma women’s gymnasts, earned the Uneven Bars Championship in 2017 and All-Around Champion, Uneven Bar Champion and Floor Exercise Champion in 2018. In 2019, Nichols battled back from injury to add another National All-Around Title and Vault Championship to her resume.
