The Real Thing Band is still going strong
Their catchy brand of soul made them one of the most successful musical acts in 1970s Britain, and The Real Thing Band has definitely not faded away. While they may not be topping the charts any more, the surviving members of the group are still putting on energy-laden live performances with an infectious atmosphere. Sing along to timeless Brit funk classics
Formed in working class Liverpool in the 70s, The Real Thing Band consisted of four friends who were later joined by lead singer Chris Amoo's brother, Eddie Amoo. Singing covers of American songs and developing a progressive brand of soul blended with elements of disco, funk and R&B, the group soon gained in popularity and landed a recording deal with EMI. You'll know them for hits like 'You To Me Are Everything', which remains the most successful of The Real Thing Band's songs by hitting number one on the UK charts and still enjoying regular airtime over forty years after its 1976 release. The infectious sound embodied by hits like this helped to put Liverpool back on the musical map and ultimately made The Real Thing Band England's most successful black rock/soul act during the 1970s. While the golden years may be behind them, the band has held onto their trademark sound and cheeky persona, producing great music laden with just as much energy as they originally had. Don't miss out on tickets to The Real Thing Band for a chance to see these enduring legends give a spectacular live performance.
Back to the 70s with The Real Thing Band
The tragic deaths of Ray Lake and Eddie Amoo in 2000 and 2018, plus the early departure of Kenny Davis from the group mean that only two original members of The Real Thing Band have survived. But with plenty of unreleased material and creative output, the band is still more than capable of entertaining their audience, either with new material or reprisals of much loved The Real Thing Band songs like 'Can You Feel the Force?' and 'Can't Get By Without You'. 2005 saw the release of a new single with Freeloaders, but it's the timeless appeal of their soul-influenced classics and dance floor hits that still have music lovers cheering for an encore. One of the forerunners of Brit funk, the talented members of The Real Thing Band were part of a movement that influenced acts such as Beggar & Co, and even later pop groups like Wham!, Culture Club and Spandau Ballet. Their legacy is as undeniable as the continued existence of their talent: see these born entertainers in the flesh with tickets for The Real Thing Band now available to buy or sell on StubHub.
