The Muppets live: legendary puppets to visit London for their first ever live UK shows
Created by Jim Henson and his wife Jane in 1955, The Muppets are arguably the most famous and successful cast of puppets in history. Making their debut on the television programme Sam and Friends – which aired from 1955 to 1961 – the troupe have spawned an empire of feature films, multiple TV series', video games, music recordings, theme park attractions, print publications, merchandising, and breakout media opportunities for famous characters.
Much to the delight of their generations of fans, the veteran puppets have announced that they are to appear in the first ever live Muppets extravaganza to take part outside of the States, as Kermit, Piggy, Fozzie, Gonzo and the gang take to the stage at London's O2 for two evening performances and a matinee on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 July 2018.
There will be comedy sketches new and old, a musical extravaganza from Miss Piggy herself, celebrity guests and performances from the house band Dr Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. So don't miss out on your chance to see the larger-than-life superstars live – get your Muppets tickets at StubHub UK now.
The Muppets: Kermit and the gang to hit the capital
After taking part in skits on several late night US talk shows and TV adverts during the 1960s, the Muppets began appearing on the world famous children's show Sesame Street in 1969. Their own multi award-winning prime time TV series The Muppet Show was a huge success (1976–1981), while films The Muppet Movie (1979), The Great Muppet Caper (1981), and The Muppets Take Manhattan (1984) proved to be huge box office hits.
The Jim Henson Hour (1989) showcased the creator's various puppet creations, including many of the Muppet characters, before three more films: The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992), Muppet Treasure Island (1996), and Muppets from Space (1999) hit cinemas. Fourteen years after initial negotiations began, The Walt Disney Company finally purchased the Muppet intellectual properties from the Jim Henson Company for $75 million in February 2004, and immediately set about further widening the cast's appeal.
Following a trio of sold-out shows at the Hollywood Bowl in their native US, the cast will visit London in July 2018 with leader of the gang, Kermit the Frog, saying: "We're thrilled to bring this first time ever live performance to all our fans in the UK. There'll be music, comedy, incredible surprises, plus total and complete chaos.
"We've wanted to do a show like this for a long time, and now – after finally getting all Miss Piggy's luggage through customs – we have the chance to appear live at The O2 Arena!"
