Sophie Ellis-Bextor: electropop princess to play classic hits across the UK in 2019
With her softly sung vocals and dance-pop sensibilities, Sophie Ellis-Bextor is one of the most memorable solo artists of the early-mid 2000s. Since "Murder on the Dancefloor" and "Groovejet" she has continued to make award-winning, charting music; most recently with 2016's Familia, which earned widespread critical acclaim.
She will no doubt return to upper echelons of the charts in 2019 with her first greatest hits compilation - The Song Diaries - which will consist of orchestal reworkings of 16 singles. What's more, to the delight of fans, Ellis-Bextor has announced that she will tour the UK to support the record in June 2019. Having sold over two million records across the UK in her heyday, she has an army of nostalgic fans just waiting to snap up tickets. So make sure you don't miss out! Sophie Ellis-Bextor: memorable pop hit maker
Oozing sophisticated charm, Sophie Ellis-Bextor began her musical career in 1997, singing lead vocals in semi-successful indie band Theaudience. The group released four singles, including the UK Top 40 hits "I Know Enough (I Don't Get Enough)", and "A Pessimist Is Never Disappointed", but were dropped by record label Mercury after just a single album. Ellis-Bextor, though, was already becoming well known across the rock/pop genres and collaborated with the Manic Street Preachers, but not before the multi-talented princess almost took the title role of Satine in Baz Luhrmann's blockbuster musical.
Her big breakthrough, however, came a year later when she teamed up with Italian DJ Spiller; adding vocals to his then-instrumental club track "Groovejet". The track proved to be a phenomenal success: hitting the top of the UK charts, winning multiple awards, and going on to become the most played record on UK radio of the decade to 2010. Her own successful solo career began with debut album Read My Lips (2001), which reached number two in the charts and delighted audiences with irresistable catchy dance-pop tunes such as UK top three singles "Murder on the Dancefloor", a rework of Cher's "Take Me Home" and "Get Over You" / "Move This Mountain".
Her next three releases, Shoot from the Hip (2003), Trip the Light Fantastic (2007) and Make a Scene (2011), were given significant airplay, before she was voted Best Live Act at the AIM Independent Music Awards in 2014. Alongside marrying The Feeling bassist Richard Jones and raising four children, the unstoppable songstress has continued to climb the charts, with recently released fifth and sixth albums Wanderlust and Familia selling well.
