State of the art retractable field
With a capacity of more than 40,000 for both baseball and football, Sapporo Dome has an incredible atmosphere that intensifies the contest on the pitch. One of few professional sporting stadiums around the world to feature a retractable surface, the grass football field can be shifted either inside or outside to accommodate the event being held. Ensure you make the 20 minute train trip from the city centre to Fukuzumi Station to check out this incredible feat of engineering and magnificent arena. Built prior to the 2002 Football World Cup, Sapporo Dome hosted eventual runners-up Germany National Football Team in their first match of the tournament. In a tremendous display of precision and skill, the Germans trounced Saudi Arabia 8-0. During the group stages of the competition, more than 35,000 people arrived to see the England National Soccer Team squeeze to a tight 1-0 victory against Argentina. A modern building with cutting-edge technology, make sure you get Sapporo Dome tickets for when you are in town!
Hokkaido brings baseball championships home
Home to the all-conquering Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters, Sapporo Dome has seen its fair share of on-field success. The dominant professional baseball team has called the stadium home since 2004 and celebrated their first Japan Series championship in the arena just two years later. The team followed up by winning another title in 2016, which included three consecutive victories in front of more than 40,000 fans at the stadium. The Nippon Ham Fighters also share the Sapporo Dome with the Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo, a professional football club that wear a red and blue kit. The impressive versatile arena also hosted the 2007 Ski World Championships, becoming the first indoor stadium to host a world class ski event. In an event that drew the attention of the sporting world to Sapporo, the arena hosted both the opening and closing ceremonies for the competition. For the first time ever, the cross-country ski race began inside the stadium, with competitors exiting through a massive door and later returning inside to cross the finish line. One of the world's most innovative stadiums, don't miss the chance to buy or sell Sapporo Dome tickets online on StubHub.
