New York Lizards TicketsAs a founding member of the MLL, the New York Lizards have a rich history of introducing top talent to the league. Despite losing its inaugural game to rivals the Chesapeake Bayhawks, the Lizards topped the division table and won their first championship in 2001. In its first five years between 2001 and 2005, the Lizards featured in four finals, winning two of them. Subsequent years until 2012 saw many ups and downs, as the team couldn't repeat the past performance and lost two semifinals and a final. The changing of the name to New York Lizards and new ownership had a positive impact, as the Lizards won one championship and made four semifinal appearances. The team's logo is a small reptile that was imported to Long Island from Italy, as there are no native lizards on Long Island. Where do the New York Lizards play?James M. Shuart Stadium, located inside the campus of Hofstra University, is home to the New York Lizards. The stadium has a capacity of nearly 12,000 seats, and it's named after the former president of the university, who was also a lacrosse player. In 1968, the stadium became one of the few college stadiums in the United States to get artificial turf. In 2007, the original turf was replaced with Field Turf. Besides the New York Lizards, the stadium also hosts the university's NCAA lacrosse team, the Hofstra Pride.
Who are the top rivals of the New York Lizards?Since the foundations of Major League Lacrosse, the Lizards have always faced intense competition from the Chesapeake Bayhawks, based in Maryland. Both teams continue to produce top lacrosse talent and a history that goes back to the earliest match, which ended in the Lizards' victory. Interestingly, the Lizards and the Bayhawks faced each other four times in the first five championship finals, sharing the spoils 2-2. In 2010, history repeated itself when the Lizards lost the title game 9-13. Irrespective of the performance of the two rivals, the close proximity to Maryland, the cosmopolitan flair and the history between the two teams keep matches between New York and Maryland a closely fought contest.
