Although it has only won one regular season championship in its conference, the team has, nevertheless, performed exceptionally over the years in both regular season and tournament play. The year the Wolverines won the championship, which was 1981, they were under the tutelage of 11-season coach Sandy Vong and garnered a record of 40 wins and 17 losses. They also were AIAW Regional champions that year. As of 2018, the Wolverines had made it to AIAW, NIVC and NCAA Tournaments 20 times. Michigan's current roster is filled with returnees who brought the heat to the courts in 2019 and are primed for big action in 2020, such as Natalie Smith. In 2019, she had double-digit dig matches and broke her record for dig and assists, compiling 390 and 102 respectively. He is the sixth head coach of the Wolverines and has the most wins of them all plus the highest win percentage. In 13 of his last 16 seasons, Rosen coached the Wolverines to more than 20 wins. He's rarely had a losing season. Currently, he is one of the only head coaches in the Big Ten to take his volleyball team to the NCAA Tournament in 17 of the last 20 years. When he was a player, Rosen ripped it up on the court for California State University at Northridge. During his time there, he was a three-time varsity letter winner.

Her primary focus is on defense, and she has worked extensively with standout players such as Claire Kieffer-Wright and Erin Moore, who were named All-Americans. Rosen started her coaching career in 1992 with the Central Ohio Volleyball Club, after which she spent a couple of years coaching at the Kern River Volleyball Club in Bakersfield. As a student, Rosen played for the Ohio State Buckeyes, who are rivals of the Wolverines. While there, she was named Big Ten Conference Player of the Year.
