Where do the Denver Pioneers play?The Denver Pioneers play their home games at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. In fact, it was the first purpose-built lacrosse stadium in the NCAA Division I. In addition to hosting the Denver Pioneers, Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium has also been the site of the Big East Championship in 2016. Tierney is one of the most celebrated coaches in all of college lacrosse, having spent 30 years at Princeton. He was the first NCAA Division I lacrosse coach to win championships with two different schools. Tierney joined the Pioneers as head coach in the summer of 2009. Under his leadership, the Pioneers have made it to Championship Weekend five times. Bill Tierney is one of only two active NCAA coaches to have over 400 career wins. He has won the Morris Touchstone Award as coach of the year twice. Tierney played his college lacrosse at Cortland State. In addition to coaching lacrosse, Tierney has also coached college soccer at the Division III level. Matt Brown is Tierney's associate head coach.
Have the Denver Pioneers ever won an NCAA championship?Yes, the Denver Pioneers won their first NCAA Division I title in 2015. That season, the Pioneers finished with a record of 17-2 under the leadership of head coach Bill Tierney. They defeated Maryland by a score of 10 to 5 in the championship game. Pioneer Wesley Berg had a particularly good game, scoring five of those goals. In addition to the championship, the Pioneers have made it to the Division I Championship Weekend four other times since 2009. Denver was the first team not located on the Eastern seaboard to win an NCAA Division I lacrosse championship.
