The home of LeBron James
The Cleveland Cavaliers formed in 1970 as an expansion team alongside the Buffalo Braves and the Portland Trail Blazers and six years later won their first Eastern Conference Central Division title. Nicknamed the Cavs, the franchise became regular playoff contenders throughout the late 1980s and 1990s thanks to players such as Brad Daugherty and Mark Price. After drafting future basketball icon LeBron James in 2005, the team won their first ever Eastern Conference Championship and enjoyed their first NBA finals appearance. After a four-year spell with the Miami Heat, James returned to the Cavaliers to guide them to four consecutive NBA Finals and then their first ever NBA Championship in 2016 by defeating the Golden State Warriors. This made the Cavs the first team in history to lift the title, having previously trailed by three games to one, and also gave their home city their first major sports title since 1964. The large capacity Quicken Loans Arena
Originally based at the Cleveland Arena, the Cavs then moved to the Richfield Coliseum in 1974 and then 20 years later, they relocated again to the Quicken Loans Arena. The venue also serves as home to the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League and the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League, while both the men's and women's college basketball teams of the Cleveland Vikings use it as a secondary home, too. It also hosts the Mid-American Conference and regularly stages other events, such as family entertainment shows, music concerts and national conventions. Capable of holding 19,432, the arena is one of the NBA's largest in terms of capacity and averages approximately two million guests per year. Alongside LeBron James, other famous faces to have pulled on the Cleveland Cavaliers jersey include Austin Carr, Bingo Smith and Kyrie Irving, while head coaches have included Bill Fitch, Lenny Wilkens and Mike Brown. The Cavs also boast two official mascots in the shape of the swashbuckling Sir C.C. and Moondog.
