Soak up the gentle British soul and R&B of Celeste
Celeste emerged as one of the most prominent modern British soul and blues singers when she scooped a Brit Award in 2019. Her vocal and musical style mixes modern R&B melodies with classic blues and British soul singing. She is true torch singer in that sense, and has conquered the UK and Europe's most important festivals, including Glastonbury Festival, Field Day and Primavera Sound. Her alternative R&B sound with gentle neo-soul vocals will enchant you just as much as everyone who's seen her before, so don't hesitate to buy or sell Celeste tickets on StubHub when you see them.
Growing up on the great soul divas
Celeste was actually born in the USA, although her mother was from Essex. Her musical roots come from her Jamaican father, though she didn't choose reggae as her musical path. Instead from an early age she was a fan of the classic soul divas like Ella Fitzgerald and Aretha Franklin, moving on to discover other favourite artists like Sun Ra and Thelonious Monk as she grew older. This also gave her a love of jazz, another flavour that she sometimes explores in her R&B music. It's this hybrid quality that has made her so popular with the post-modern generation of British soul fans, who first received a taste of it when she supported Michael Kiwanuka on his UK tour. Her debut single was on Bank Holiday Records, the label owned by cheeky British "mockney" solo icon Lily Allen. On its release she was immediately compared to singers like Billie Holliday, which was of course huge praise for the young singer who only two years before had still been at school. She has impeccable credentials when it comes to her music sensibilities, as you can find out for yourself with Celeste tickets. You can get them right here, as always.
A fast-rising young British soul star
If British soul is your bag, Celeste will be just the thing for you, although if you had been to any of the big music festivals around 2017 to 2019 you'd doubtless have come across her on the bill. She supported Rae Morris on tour in 2017 and also supported Swedish-British soul-pop and post-punk star Neneh Cherry in 2019, to add to her many achievements in this stellar year for her, which also included a BBC Music Award. She was then signed to Polygram records and released two high-quality teaser singles for her next album to much fanfare, as befits this fast-rising young star of the British soul scene. Enjoy her characteristic take on classic soul and blues, with plenty of hip-hop beats underneath – get your Celeste tickets on StubHub now.
