The first game for the lacrosse program at Army took place in 1907 against Stevens Institute of Technology. The game against Stevens was the only one scheduled for 1907 and resulted in a 3-1 victory for the Black Knights. The lacrosse team at Army played nine total games in 1909 and 1910 and were undefeated in the first 10 games of the program's existence. Lacrosse would not be played again at Army until 1921 when the sport returned for good. The Army Black Knights lacrosse team is one of the winningest programs in America with more than 700 victories to its credit. The team has won eight national championships and has been invited to play in the NCAA Tournament 17 times. Alberici is the tenth head coach in the history of Army's lacrosse program. He took over for coaching legend Jack Emmer, who retired from Army as the all-time winningest coach in college lacrosse history.
What men's lacrosse players have been honored by the Army Black Knights?George Slabowski played lacrosse for the Army Black Knights from 1981 through 1984, and he became the third goalie in college lacrosse history to earn All-American honors four times. The Black Knights made it to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament four consecutive seasons with Slabowski playing goalie. Slabowski was a senior captain in 1984 when the team made it to the semi-final round of the tournament and graduated as Army's all-time leader for saves with 603. Charlie Jarvis was one of the best football players to ever be recruited to play for Army, but that did not stop the lacrosse coach from talking him into giving lacrosse a try. Jarvis caught on fast and was a two-time All-American as an Army Black Knight lacrosse player. The team went 18-3-1 and won a national championship during the two years Jarvis played lacrosse at Army.
