The Australian Pink Floyd Show: celebrating the progressive-rock greats in true style
This collection of talented musicians have worked to recreate the sound of rock legends Pink Floyd since 1988 when guitarist Lee Smith put an advert in a local paper calling for a vocalist and keyboardist to join his line-up of Grant Ross and Trevor Turton. With Steve Mac and Jason Sawford on board, the group began performing under the name Think Floyd. Despite a slow start to their tribute careers, Peter Whitely replaced Turton and the band found their big break after being asked to perform at a Floyd convention in London in 1993.
The group – now under their current moniker – put on a three hour show, wowing the crowd with a stunning performance. Their defining moment came in 1994 when David Gilmour himself visited the band backstage; he was so impressed he asked them to perform at his 50th birthday. During the performance they would be joined on stage not only by Gilmour, but also Richard Wright for a rendition of "What Do You Want From Me".
Despite the departure of Grant Ross, the band continued with a memorable performance at Glastonbury Festival in 1998, and embarked on their boldest tour yet in 2003 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Dark Side of the Moon. Developing light shows and animation to accompany the performance, they played the entirety of the iconic album at venues across Europe and the US.
Another anniversary came in 2005 with Wish You Were Here and the band celebrated with another tour, including their biggest performance to date for 10,000 fans in Malta. With headline slots at Wembley and the O2 Arena in London, the group continue to push boundaries far beyond other tribute bands, and take their latest grand-scale set on tour in 2018.
