Romesh Ranganathan: see the 'Asian provocateur' live
London-based, Sri Lankan-born stand-up Romesh Ranganathan has been a mainstay of the comedy scene for several years now, with his unique brand of everyday misanthropy earning him critical acclaim, TV slots and countless awards. His hilarious cantankerousness, casual cruelty and abject cynicism have won him a horde of fans, as well as invitations to support a string of stand-up kings including Ricky Gervais and Paul Chowdhry.
He was nominated for Best Newcomer at the 2013 Edinburgh Comedy Awards and, in 2016, completed his first major tour, Irrational Live, during which he performed at some of the UK's iconic venues and released it as a DVD. Romesh Ranganathan: Sri Lankan stand-up comedy genius
Starting his career as a maths teacher, Broadfield funnyman Ranganathan's profile has soared since he swapped the classroom for stand-up comedy. Beginning by telling gags as a hobby, he has now played at comedy clubs across the country; gaining major traction after winning the Leicester Mercury New Act Award in 2013.
One of the most impactful new stand ups on the British comedy circuit, his fresh gags and deadpan delivery have distinguished him from the crowd, and years performing at comedy clubs all over the country have grossed him a legion of devotees. His Edinburgh Festival set Rom Wasn't Built in a Day earned him a coveted nomination for the Fosters Best Show Award in 2014, widening his appeal and earning him supporting jaunts with some of the biggest names on the stand-up scene.
Famous for waxing lyrical on universal topics, Ranganathan's poker-faced musings on everything from schoolroom nightmares to parental problems and his Hindu heritage have seen him secure a regular place on smash hit panel shows such as Mock the Week, 8 Out of 10 Cats and Russell Howard's Good News. He also joined The Apprentice: You're Fired! in 2015 as a regular panelist and co-presented It's Not Rocket Science, a new entertainment series for ITV, alongside Ben Miller and Rachel Riley.
