Katherine Jenkins: national treasure in the making
Born in Neath, Wales, Katherine Jenkins fell in love with classical music at the age of seven, studying piano and receiving singing lessons. She went on to join the Royal School of Church Music Cathedral Singers in 1990 and then the National Youth Choir of Wales, before winning a place at the prominent Royal Academy of Music in London.
Almost as soon as she decided to pursue her musical career full time, she was signed by Universal Classics in a six-album deal – the largest deal in classical recording history. The label's faith in her wasn't misguided, as six of her seven albums went on to hit the top spot in the classical record charts - plus she became the first female artist to win two consecutive Classic BRIT Awards.
