York Barbican Centre - home of snooker's UK Championship
Situated opposite York's city walls, the Barbican Centre is an entertainment and conference venue best known for staging snooker's second biggest annual tournament, the UK Championship. You can both buy and sell York Barbican Centre tickets on StubHub.
The city's premier entertainment venue
Built by York Council alongside an existing swimming pool in 1989, the Barbican Centre soon became the city's premier entertainment venue thanks to annual events such as the York Interschool Battle of the Bands and the UK Snooker Championships, the second most prestigious tournament in the game. After closing its doors in 2004, the building remained dormant for several years but later reopened in 2011 following a £1.5 million refurbishment which involved a brand-new box-office area and dedicated meeting rooms. The 1,900-capacity centre has since re-established its status as a premier venue not just for music, comedy and theatre performances, but also for award ceremonies, fashion shows, business conferences, exhibitions, receptions and training courses. The UK Championship also returned to its former home on its reopening in 2011, as did the Guildhall Orchestra and annual shows such as the Lord Mayor's Carol Concert and the Festival of Remembrance.
