Musical plays and legendary artists under one roof
One of the biggest draws for this venue is the frequency of musical plays being performed here. Enthusiasts of musicals flock to Southend year-round; the autumn/winter season of 2018 kicked off with a performance of The Band, which has emerged as one of the most popular new musicals around. Based on the story of beloved boy band Take That (which also celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2018), it charters the triumphs and troubles it faced, enduring two splits and three reunions during its lifespan. Some legendary artists were not far away, of course, with revered talents such as Michael Bolton, Level 42 and The Proclaimers all walking through the famous doors of the Pavilion. Artists for the younger generation were also a huge presence at his venue in 2018, including Jessie J, the London-born singer who performed all of her best-loved hits here. Of course, no autumn season would be complete without a comedian or two; Southend Cliffs Pavilion tickets for Jason Manford were hugely popular, with the man himself endearing audiences through his typically British brand of earthy humour.
Southend Cliffs Pavilion: a history of greatness
With a seating capacity of over 1,600, the Cliffs Pavilion has a history rooted deeply in Southend lore. Its construction was disrupted by the outbreak of the Second World War and would not be completed until 1964. Building it so close to the cliffs was an unprecedented move, but it turned out to be one that cemented its status as an iconic and unforgettable building. Its reputation as a top class venue grew over the subsequent three decades, with even the great Paul McCartney performing there in July of 1991. Four years later, the principal band of Britpop - Oasis - made history by becoming the first band to perform at the Cliffs Pavilion in a show that was released on VHS (and later DVD). With other great bands selling out the venue even more recently, such as Gloria Gaynor, Blur and One Direction, the future of the venue is just as illustrious as its past. Now, by buying Southend Cliffs Pavilion tickets on StubHub, you too can be part of the venue's great existence!
