Bryson Tiller: R&B breakthrough from the streets of Louisville

Originating from the streets of Louisville, Kentucky, Tiller certainly put in the hard yards to achieve his dream. The young rapper and singer-songwriter's musical journey began back in high school: serenading girls in the corridors, before a fellow student overheard and asked him to record a vocal line on a track. Though the song didn't go anywhere, Tiller was instantly hooked, and he worked tirelessly to earn a career in music.

Success still didn't come easy though. In 2014, Tiller was juggling two jobs to support his newborn daughter, while trying to write songs in his free time. It was only after borrowing 600 dollars from a couple of friends that he was able to build the home setup he needed to launch his career, and once he overcame his shyness he started releasing tracks on SoundCloud. 

In October 2014, Tiller's self-produced single "Don't" finally brought the spotlight down on him – not least because it was noticed by both Timbaland and Drake, his biggest influence. Their public praise resulted in millions of people listening to the song on SoundCloud, and Bryson Tiller was promptly signed by RCA Records. His debut LP Trapsoul arrived in 2015 and featured both "Don't" – which went double platinum upon official release – and a second platinum single in "Exchange". "Sorry Not Sorry" was then released as the third single.

In May 2017, Tiller released "Honey", "Somethin Tells Me" and "Get Mine" (featuring rapper Young Thug) ahead of his second album True to Self. The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 and number 11 in the UK. A month later, DJ Khaled released "Wild Thoughts" featuring Tiller and pop superstar Rihanna; which reached number one in the UK Singles Chart.
