World-beating basketball troupe the Harlem Globetrotters have a rich history dating back to 1926, when the team was first formed under the name the Savoy Big Five. Yet, while they were founded in the 1920s, the Globetrotters first came to real worldwide prominence in the 1970s.

Standout moments in their long career include a 24-year winning streak running from 1971 - 1995, a number of Guinness World Records and the honour of being the only sports team with their own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Their opposition - which is most often the long-suffering Washington Generals - are effectively 'stooges' for the spectacular plays that they pull off throughout the games. Despite this however, it is said that around 20-30% of the action is real - a fact which has led to rare Globetrotter defeats in the past.
