VfL Bochum, long-time residents of the Bundesliga
VfL Bochum have spent most of their lifetime as a professional club in the first division of the Bundesliga and are a really successful team, despite not being as well known to international football fans. They've achieved consistent, if not stellar, success through their existence, which is also one of the longest in German sports. We've made it really easy for you to buy or sell VfL Bochum tickets on StubHub.
A fast and steady rise to the top of German football
VfL Bochum hails from the northern Rhineland, in the west of Germany. It is one of the oldest sporting clubs in the world, not only Germany, with similar origins to many German football teams: as a gymnastics club. This one began in 1848 as Turnverein zu Bochum. Many mergers with other clubs ensued, until in 1963, when the Bundesliga was formed. Originally consigned to the Amateurliga Westfalen, they quickly progressed through the leagues, and by 1971, they were in the top division of the Bundesliga. From then on, it would be over 20 years before their run of success ended. On the way to their very first year of top league football, they also made it to the cup final, the DFB Pokal. Here they were beaten by 1. FC Köln in 1968. They've since appeared in the final again and have maintained a solid record in the Bundesliga, albeit usually in the bottom half of the table. Nonetheless, VfL Bochum tickets are prized by fans every week during the season, so when the game is on in Germany, keep your eye out for the many opportunities you'll have to snap them up.
Solid seasons year after year and European appearances
Despite its somewhat journeyman status, VfL Bochum has had its fair share of highlights over its years in the Bundesliga, including twice qualifying for a European competition, first when they came fifth in the German league in 1997, and again in 2004 when they finished in the same position. They were knocked out relatively early both times, however, the first time by Ajax and on the second occasion by Belgian champions Royal Standard de Liège. If you get the chance to watch VfL Bochum in action during the regular season, we'd encourage you to take it up, as you'll not find a more excitingly tenacious team to watch – in fact, they have a reputation for being absolute terriers on the field, with a never-say-die attitude that makes them highly entertaining to watch, whether they win or lose. So keep an eye out for VfL Bochum tickets on StubHub – for home games, look for tickets to the Ruhrstadion.
