Starsailor - Wigan Soft Rock Favourites Make Welcome Return
These English Brit-poppers are making a welcome return after going on extended hiatus in 2009 to pursue individual projects. Known for hits like 'Silence is Easy' and 'Four to the Floor' this alternative rock group have become synonymous with a mellow, guitar driven sound complemented by artfully weaved melodies. After the announcement of their revival, the group spent late 2014 touring festivals across the road in preparation for the release of their first greatest hits album; Greatest Hits: Good Souls this September. The record includes two new songs, 'Give up the Ghost' and 'Hold On'. Starsailor - Biography
The band first came together at college in Wigan and were originally known as Waterface. The full line up of James Stelfox, Ben Byrne, James Walsh and Barry Westhead was secured by 2000 and they began to build up a reputation in their local area, now known as Starsailor after the Tim Buckley album of the same name. After being spotted and praised by an NME journalist, the band were signed by EMI and released their first single 'Fever' in 2001. Their success from then on was phenomenal, selling out their first UK tour whilst working on their debut album.
On its release the album Love is Here reached No.2 in the UK charts and led to the band being named the 'Brightest New Hope' at the NME Awards. Their second album, Silence is Easy, would give the group their first top ten hit with the single of the same name. 2005 saw the third album, On the Outside, hit the shelves, with critics hailing it a return to form for the group. After working with Rolling Stones legend Ronnie Wood, the band produced fourth album, All the Plans, in 2009. It wasn't long after that the band decided it was time for a break, to pursue individual projects and they subsequently went on indefinite hiatus. To the delight of fans they announced their return in late 2014 and are now gearing up, not only for the release of their greatest hits album, but for UK wide tour kicking off in October.
