Mumford and Sons: folk-rock hitmakers
After the release of second UK number one album Wilder Mind earlier in 2016, Grammy Award-winning band Mumford and Sons continue to tour and headline top festivals across the UK. While the band are known for their modern folk-rock sound, their latest record saw them put down the banjos to go electric, a transition which proved their continued ambition to innovate as a group. Armed with three records full of hits from "I Will Wait" to "Believe", the latest set of shows are sure to be their most memorable yet, and they are well known for their energetic live performances. With all band members talented multi-instrumentalists, they've become one of the biggest crossover bands both in their native UK and the US - largely thanks to the driving rhythms of their instantly catchy anthems. Mumford and Sons: from west London pubs to headlining arenas
As an invocation of an old family business, alt-folk band Mumford and Sons chose their name in 2007 and began to play live across west London. Before being signed to a label, Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, Winston Marshall and Ted Dwane toured the UK, making an appearance at Glastonbury Festival in 2008 and following it up with a support slot for Laura Marling in Australia. The DIY approach paid off, as after the group self-funded the recording of first album Sigh No More in 2009, they signed with Island Records. "Little Lion Man" was released as the lead single, and soon received extensive radio play. After appearances on major television chat shows the group began to grow in popularity, leading to Grammy Award nominations and a Brit Award win for British Album of the Year.
After a North American tour and another appearance at Glastonbury, the band announced second studio album Babel would be released in late 2012 - subsequently becoming the fastest selling record of the year. It was 2015 before the quartet re-emerged with third LP Wilder Mind, which debuted at number one in the UK, US and Australia with the group continuing to tour and headline festivals in more recent years.
