Simple Minds: three decades of chart-topping hits

Formed from the ashes of punk band Johnny & The Self Abusers, chart-topping Simple Minds stemmed from the long-standing friendship between guitarist Charlie Burchill and singer Jim Kerr. After the split of their former punk group the pair recruited more members and began nurturing a reputation as a must-see live act. It was their second album, Real to Real Cacophony, that saw the group emerge with the sound they're so well-known for today.

The dark, experimental sound toyed with new wave sensibilities and gave rise to commercially successful albums New Gold Dream and Sparkle in the Rain, the latter of which contained the hit single "Don't You (Forget About Me)" – the song that that gave the group internationally success after being featured in the credits of The Breakfast Club.
