Saxon Biography - Heavy Metal Icons from the North

Front runners on the New Wave of British Heavy Metal scene of the late '70s, this iconic group was created in 1976 from the remnants of Barnsley-based bands Son Of A Bitch and Coast. Calling themselves SOB before settling for their current moniker, they combined the strengths of both bands with Peter "Biff" Byford as their flagrant frontman. Going on tour with legendary hellraisers Motorhead, the group established themselves on the scene before signing to French label Carrere in 1979 and releasing their self titled debut album. A mere dress rehearsal for their sophomore effort Strong Arm of the Law, the LP introduced a new sound that would revolutionise the genre.

Changing the face of metal, the band experienced an unprecedented wave of stardom, going on extensive tours in Europe and the UK. Playing for full houses all over the world, the band was in the same league as Iron Maiden and Judas priest, at times surpassing them in fame.
