A unique theatrical setting
The town of Ipswich began to develop around Ipswich dock between the 7th and 8th century, as coastal areas of western Europe began to appear after the collapse of the Roman Empire. Ipswich dock became an essential trade route to the Kingdom of East Anglia. In modern times, Ipswich has undergone significant gentrification and rebuilding, turning what became a heavily industrial dock into a commercial and residential hub. The Ipswich Regents Theatre plays a key role in the towns cultural and artistic identity, hosting theatrical and cinematic productions as well as musical concerts since its opening in 1929, where it was one of the first theatres in the UK to show films complete with sound. For its time, it was a sublimely elegant and prestigious location, with its own orchestra, 14 boxes and a restaurant all conjured up by the designer WE Trent. Also incorporated in its blueprint was a manager's residence, a highly unusual feature for structures of its kind. Discover this one-of-a-kind building and its diverse variety of shows with Ipswich Regents Theatre tickets now available to buy and sell through StubHub.

Ipswich Regents Theatre was an important venue during World War Two, staging ballet, opera, civic events and concerts for the community. Throughout the 1950s and 60s during the birth of rock n' roll, its stage saw many now legendary artists, including The Faces, Jimi Hendrix and even The Beatles. Back then, the venue was known as the Gaumont Theatre, and remained an influential site throughout the development of the genre in the 1970s and 80s, where many new wave and punk acts performed, such as Elvis Costello, The Boomtown Rats and Siouxsie and the Banshees.
