Football League perennials
After more than a decade of playing in various London leagues and at several home grounds, Brentford FC achieved Southern League status in 1901 and found a permanent home, Griffin Park, three years later. In 1920, they became a founding member of England's Division Three and after winning league titles in 1933 and 1935, they eventually made it to the top flight. Guided by legendary boss Harry Curtis, the Bees achieved two consecutive top six finishes, reached the sixth round of the FA Cup and attracted the attention of several international managers during their golden period. Following relegation in the first post-war season, Brentford FC spent the next 70 years bouncing around the three divisions outside the top tier, winning the Fourth Division title in 1963 and 2009 and the Third Division title in 1992 and 1999. They also reached three Football League Trophy finals, twice made the FA Cup quarter finals and helped to launch the careers of Dean Holdsworth, Gary Blissett and Marcus Gayle. A stadium with a pub on every corner
Renowned for being the only football league stadium in England to boast a pub on each corner, Griffin Park has been at the heart of the London game since the early 20th Century. The 12,300-seater venue provides an electric atmosphere when at full capacity, particularly the club's local rivals, Queens Park Rangers and Fulham, come to town. Since becoming a Championship regular in the mid-10s, the club has attracted several internationals, including Danish defenders Andreas Bjelland and Henrik Dalsgaard, Welsh centre back Chris Mepham and Republic of Ireland midfielder Alan Judge, while also bringing through academy players such as goalkeeper Ellery Balcombe, defender Tom Field and midfielders Josh Clarke, Reece Cole and Zain Westbrooke. The club has also given managerial opportunities to several former professionals since the turn of the century, including ex-England captain Terry Butcher, one-time Manchester City forward Uwe Rosler and former Leyton Orient defender Dean Smith.
