Band of Horses: indie rock festival favourites
One of the greatest indie acts of recent memory, Band of Horses have acquired a legion of fans off the back of their luscious guitar-driven melodies such as "The Funeral" and "Casual Party", in which ribbons of folk, blues and country music are clearly audible. Their uniquely rootsy interpretation of radio-conscious rock has seen them soar high into the Billboard Chart but they fare even better in Europe, where a hefty bulk of their following resides.
In 2017, the Grammy-nominees embarked on a world tour in support of fifth studio album Why Are You OK, with singles such as "Solemn Oath" and "In a Drawer" going down a storm with fans. As well as their own sell out tours, the group are UK festival favourites too, so don't miss your chance to see the quintet perform live when they next visit the UK: get Band of Horses tickets now at StubHub UK.
Band of Horses: still going strong
Starting out his music career as drummer for nominally successful Seattle sadcore outfit Carissa's Weird in the late 1990s, vocalist Ben Bridwell decided to step into the spotlight with his own group in the mid-2000s. Acting as the lead singer and guitarist, he was able to shape his equine act around his own previously unheralded vocals, and they were soon invited to support fellow South Carolina musician Iron and Wine on his tour around the state.
The band caught the attention of big label Sub Pop, who put out the 2006 debut single "The Funeral", which featured on many films and TV shows, with Pitchfork subsequently naming it one of the 100 greatest songs of the 2000s. After a line-up change, the band released their sophomore LP Cease to Begin which have them their first charting hit in the US, leading to high profile performance slots at Glastonbury and T in the Park in the UK.
In 2010, they achieved their big British breakthrough with their third album Infinite Arms off the back of the single "Life on Earth" which was used in the blockbuster film of the year Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Appearances on shows such as Later... with Jools Holland and opening slots for the likes of Pearl Jam and Snow Patrol saw their audience grow exponentially, and the record was nominated for a Grammy Award. Their fourth LP Mirage Rock and their latest sixth studio album Why Are You OK (2016) prove they're still very much relevant - and no one-trick pony.
