Alex Cameron Tickets
An Australian musician, singer, performer and songwriter, Alex Cameron is probably best known as a member of Seekae, an electronic music trio that he plays in, alongside George Nicholas and John Hassel. As a solo performer, Cameron delivers a unique blend of indie rock, synth-pop and electronica. Cameron's solo work involves the concept that the music being performed is that of a failed entertainer. Claiming that failure is a largely unexplored avenue in popular music, Cameron effectively plays the part of a character of his own invention. Whether or not this persona belies Cameron's own ideas and feelings is a judgement that is entirely down to his audience.
Alex Cameron's transition to solo work
Cameron comes from Sydney, as do the other members of Seekae. He has been creating music at a professional level since 2006. He released the album The Sound of Trees Falling on People in 2008 with his fellow band mates, using old-school electronica sounds, like those generated from eight-bit synthesizers. Two further albums followed; +Dome in 2011 and The Worry three years later.
Between these two LPs with Seekae, Cameron began working on his own material. He continued taking to the stage with Seekae, but also under his own name and stage persona. Cameron would frequently perform on his own but sometimes also with a saxophonist named Ray Molloy. Prior to the release of Seekae's The Worry, Cameron unleashed his first solo recording on the public. It was put out in 2013 and entitled Jumping the Shark. The album was made available for free download from Cameron's website and only had a physical release on Siberia Records some months later. The eight-track work was subsequently re-released on the Secretly Canadian label in 2016, following a warm reception for some of the downbeat themes expressed by Cameron in the work.
Alex Cameron's live work
During a live performance in Paris, Cameron came to the attention of the American duo, Foxygen, an indie rock outfit. They invited Cameron to open some of their shows, bringing the performer to the attention of a wider audience. Cameron then toured with Mac DeMarco, the Canadian singer and songwriter, as well as the likes of Kevin Morby, best known for his work with the Babies. Cameron has also toured with Unknown Mortal Orchestra, the New Zealand-based psychedelic rock band. In August 2017, Cameron began an extensive tour of Europe, with dates in Belgium, the UK, Portugal and France.
