1. FC Nürnberg, the other Bavarian football team
When we think of the giants of Bavarian football, there's usually only one team that comes to mind, and it's not 1. FC Nürnberg. However, for all the thunder that FC Bayern Munich has stolen from them in the 2010s, we tend to forget that this is one of the country's most successful teams, nicknamed simply "The Club" or "The Legend". Find out what's so special about this club when you buy or sell 1. FC Nürnberg tickets on StubHub.
An erratic record in the Bundesliga
1. FC Nürnberg were utterly unstoppable for many decades after the club's inception in 1900. By the time the Bundesliga was formed in the early 1960s, they'd won the Oberliga Süd 11 times and the German championship seven times. Curiously, 1. FC Nürnberg wasn't able to replicate that success in the Bundesliga, having managed to win it only once in an erratic modern era for the club that saw them relegated and promoted with startling regularity. They hold the distinction of being the team that has been relegated from the first division the most times since 1963. They have, however, had more success in the cup competition, becoming one of the teams that has won the DFB Pokal more than three times. The club has also tasted European cup glory, albeit only briefly, with one appearance in 2008. Fans have a proud sense of history despite the stumbles over the decades and if you get 1. FC Nürnberg tickets, you'll find out just how firmly they believe in The Legend.
Intense local football rivalry
1. FC Nürnberg is one half of one of Germany's most intense footballing rivalries, which at times has way overstepped the lines of sportsmanship. The subject of this sporting animosity is SpVgg Greuther Fürth, based in a nearby Bavarian town. A measure of the lengths to which the two clubs have taken their rivalry is the 1921 story of a player who was forced to resign from the team for marrying his sweetheart, who unfortunately lived in Nuremberg. Another bizarre incident in the club's history was the strange ending to the 1921 national championship final against Hamburger SV, which was abandoned as a draw after just over three hours of game time. A rematch needed extra time as well, only to be called off with the scores level because Nürnberg didn't have enough uninjured players to continue. Faced with something of a dilemma as to who should be pronounced the winner, the powers that be gave the trophy to Hamburger SV, on the agreement that they would refuse to accept it in the name of fair play. There's clearly always something interesting to look forward to with 1. FC Nürnberg tickets, so keep an eye on StubHub for them – you never know what might happen!
