Take a Stroll With Walking On Cars
Walking On Cars, which hails from Dingle in Ireland's Country Kerry, has been taking the indie world by storm lately. The band's impressive touring schedule and successful first releases have put them on a steady course for musical fame.
Walking On Cars will be touring throughout the year, going all over the U.K. Despite being a relatively new band, they will be playing some pretty well-known stages over the course of the tour. Among other venues, Walking On Cars will be performing at the legendary King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow, the O2 Academy in Sheffield and Dingwalls in London.
This band took an unusual approach when they decided to make a go of music. They rented a house in the country, in the middle of nowhere, and holed up with their equipment for six months. During that time they had no TV and no way of contacting the outside world, which may sound like the setup for a horror movie, but it really worked for Walking On Cars. They spent half a year listening to music and recording, and ended up with some fantastic material.
Walking On Cars first got together while they were still at school back in 2010. The lead singer Patrick Sheehy actually went away to college between 2010 and 2011 before deciding that he'd rather focus on the band. Patrick's vocals are ably supported by Dan Devane's dazzling skills on guitar and Sorcha Durham on the piano. Evan Hadnett and Paul Flannery hold up the rhythm side of things on the drums and bass, respectively.
Walking On Cars' dedication started to pay off in 2012. They were signed by Coal Records and won the Red Bull Bedroom Jam, which gave the band an opportunity to build a following. They capitalised on the signing and win by releasing their debut single, "Catch Me If You Can."
The song was a hit, receiving a great deal of radio play in Ireland and provoking intense buzz online. It made it to No. 27 in the charts in Ireland, which is quite a feat for a new band that hadn't even released a debut album at that point. Their follow up single, "Two Stones," made it to No. 12 and the band's fame really started to take off. By 2014, the band was supporting The Script on tour and developing a loyal international following.
Walking on Cars are doing exceptionally well after the release of their first two EPs. As We Fly South was released in 2013 and contains both of their hit singles. It is a refreshing EP, offering a combination of catchiness and real depth. Hand and Hand was released in 2014 and the single "Hand in Hand" reached the No. 19 spot on the Ireland Singles Top 100 chart. One of their most successful songs, "Tick Tock," debuted at the No. 8 spot on the Ireland chart.
The great thing about seeing Walking On Cars live is that they clearly love every minute of the gig. Patrick keeps the audience rapt all the way through their set, chatting with the crowd and creating a warm atmosphere. The band makes the most of their fairly small set list and every song is memorable and performed with gusto. Fans with Walking On Cars tickets have the chance to catch the band before they really make it big.
