Toronto Blue Jays - Canada's premier baseball team
The only MLB franchise to be based outside America, the Toronto Blue Jays have been Canada's premier baseball team since their formation in 1977. Check out the range of Toronto Blue Jays tickets currently on offer on StubHub.
World Series winners, AL East champions
Formed as an expansion franchise in 1977, the Toronto Blue Jays enjoyed their first winning season six years later. Originally owned by the Labatt Brewing Company, the team shares its colours with the city's other sporting giants, the Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League and the Argonauts of the Canadian Football League. In 1985, the team were crowned division champions and dominated the American League East over the next decade with a further four titles, three of which were consecutive. Thanks to a team that included All-Stars such as Joe Carter, Devon White, John Olerud and Roberto Alomar, the Toronto Blue Jays also became the first ever non-American team to win a World Series in 1992, a feat they repeated the following year. In 2015, the franchise secured its first playoff berth for 20 years and won the AL Division Series. Following the Montreal Expos' 2005 relocation to Washington, they remain the only Major League Baseball team outside America. You can both buy and sell Toronto Blue Jays tickets on StubHub.
The multi-purpose Rogers Centre
The Toronto Blue Jays first played their home games at the Exhibition Stadium, before moving to the SkyDome in 1989, which was renamed the Rogers Centre in 2005. Situated near Lake Ontario's northern shore, southwest of the CN Tower, the venue was originally the home base of the CFL's Toronto Argonauts and the NBA's Toronto Raptors. Renowned for being the first stadium with a motorised fully retractable roof, the Rogers Centre also boasts a 348-room hotel, hosted both the opening and closing Pan American Games ceremonies in 2015, and stages various other events, such as monster truck shows, travelling carnivals and live music concerts. With its signature songs (Tin Pan Alley standard 'Take Me to the Ball Game' and Keith Hampshire and the Bat Boys' 'OK Blue Jays'), regular blue mascot Ace and crowds of up to 49,000, the stadium's atmosphere is at its most electric when the Toronto Blue Jays are on the field, and, in particular, when closest rivals the Detroit Tigers come to town.
