The Raveonettes Biography - Catchy Melodies and Provocative Lyrics
A middleweight contender in alt-pop circles, this daring musical duo was formed in Copenhagen in 2001. After years of searching the globe for likeminded band members, multi-instrumentalist Sune Rose Wagner finally found his musical match in quirky vocalist Sharing Foo. Combining Foo's love of '60s rock with Wagner's adoration for Scottish alt-rockers the Jesus and Mary Chain, the two began recording their first joint effort, and in 2002 the debut LP Whip it On was released. A dark and rather unconventional affair, the album earned them a slot at Danish festival SPOT, where the group was discovered by Rolling Stone editor David Fricke. Thanks to a rave review written by the latter, the group was tipped as hot stuff by the industry's top labels.
In 2003 sophomore album The Chain Gang of Love was released and spawned the minor hit 'That Great Love Sound', whose controversial video captured Foo and Wagner plotting ways to kill one another. This buzzy conversation piece offered just a taste of their penchant for provocation: 2012's Observator explored themes of attraction, mortality and paganism with an ominous undercurrent, using hazy riffs and sonic distortion to great effect.
As the band continues to earn their stripes on the touring circuit, you'll have many chances to see them live. Purchase The Raveonettes tickets on our site to see why these unassuming Danes are causing a big fuss among fans of indie-pop.
