Tennis tour dates
Wistful and full of wanderlust, Tennis has entranced audiences since 2011 with the implicit promise of distant shores and foreign adventure. Fronted by the husband-wife duo of Patrick Riley and Alaina Moore, whose romance and youthful sailing adventures are central to the band's brand, the dream pop outfit interweaves their music with echoes of '50s doo wop and a moody, lo-fi production.
The roots of Tennis stretch back to a college philosophy classroom, where Patrick Riley and Alaina Moore first met. After graduating, the couple embarked on a seven-month sailing expedition along the eastern Atlantic in their boat, Swift Ranger. These adventures and the conversations the couple had about life and music along the way went on to inform the core of much of their musical content. Upon their return, they spent time touring and releasing several singles, including "Baltimore" and "South Carolina." They also wrote and recorded Cape Dory. Despite their initial intentions to keep the album private, it was released in 2011 on Fat Possum and ranked No. 2 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart.
Tennis's later albums
After adding drummer James Barone to its roster, Tennis followed its debut with the 2012 offering Young & Old, which outstripped even the success of their first album while maintaining the same breezy ambiance. It topped both the Heatseekers chart and the Alternative Albums and Independent Albums charts, as well as the Billboard 200. Tennis later left Fat Possum and moved over to Communion Music, a label run by Ben Lovett of Mumford & Sons.
The band's most recent album, Ritual in Repeat, came in 2014. Hailed as a more accessible album with tender notes of meaningful depth and emotion, the album represented a shift in maturity for the band and earned it prominent spots on the Billboard charts once again.
