Switchfoot Tickets

Originally from San Diego in California, Switchfoot is a post-grunge alternative rock band. The group formed in 1996 and have been performing and making albums regularly ever since. The band enjoyed some early success in the Christian rock scene in the United States and remain popular in that niche. The group only gained mainstream attention when a number of their tracks were included in the soundtrack of A Walk to Remember, a 2002 film starring Shane West and Mandy Moore. This demonstrated a more widespread appeal with music fans and led to Switchfoot being signed to Columbia Records, under their Red Ink label.

Switchfoot's formative years

Initially called Chin Up, Switchfoot was formed by Jon Foreman, as vocalist and guitar player, and his brother Tim, who played bass. The pair recruited Chad Butler to play the drums and were noticed by the record producer and session musician, Charlie Peacock. Thanks to Peacock's help, the band was signed to an indie label but changed their name in the process to Switchfoot. Three albums followed in the next few years: The Legend of Chin, New Way to Be Human and finally, Learning to Breathe.

Following the aforementioned movie release, Switchfoot produced the album The Beautiful Letdown for their new label. The long-time rock musician Jerome Fontamillas was added to the group's lineup, providing backing vocals, keyboards and a rockier edge. The album went to number one in the American Christian Album charts and peaked at a high of 16 on the US Billboard 200, constituting their most successful work up to that point. It also led to them attracting a much bigger following.

Switchfoot's later work

In 2005, Switchfoot announced that it had added a fifth member. The guitarist Drew Shirley, who had previously played with All Together Separate, joined in time to contribute to the follow-up album, Nothing Is Sound. Released in September of that year, the album was heavier on guitar work and proved to be a great success, entering the US album charts at number three.

Reaching the top spot on the iTunes' Top Albums chart, the next release Oh! Gravity continued in much the same vein as Nothing Is Sound. Despite the band's success, they departed from Columbia in 2007 and their subsequent releases have all been independent. Highlights include Hello Hurricane of 2009 and the more recent work, Where the Light Shines Through, first released in 2016. The band continues to tour all over North America. They undertook a European tour with plenty of dates in the UK, in 2015.
