What can I expect to see at a SEC Women's Gymnastics Championship?

While the main focus of collegiate gymnastics is the collegiate team competition, individuals in the team also compete in the individual all-around and individual apparatus competition. Gymnasts compete in four main apparatus - floor, vault, balance beam and the uneven bars. During the team portion, the team will perform on one of the four apparatuses during each round. At the conclusion of a round, the teams rotate to the next apparatus on their circuit. After the lowest score on each apparatus is dropped, the team's total score at the end of the competition determines the final ranking.

While the SEC Women's Gymnastics Championships is a competition between the eight teams with gymnastics programs in Southeastern United States, the next steps for these student athletes are the NCAA Regional Championships and the NCAA National Championships. Historically, since the inaugural NCAA Championship in 1982, three different teams from the SEC Women's Gymnastics Championships had won NCAA Gymnastics Championships - Alabama, Florida and Georgia. In 2019, Georgia and LSU were the two SEC teams to have advanced to the semifinals. LSU Tigers had been the national runner-up for three times in the past four years.
