First divisional championship and record-breaking season
A young franchise in baseball terms, the Mariners were formed in 1977 as an expansion team of the American League. Their name was chosen from 15,000 entrants in a contest to name the newly established club after the Seattle Pilots were purchased and moved to Milwaukee, becoming the Milwaukee Brewers. They lost their first game against the California Angels (now the Los Angeles Angels) in a brutal slaying of 7-0 in front of a sold-out crowd at the newly built Kingdome ball park. The franchise would have to wait until 1995 for their first real taste of success, when they won the division title for the first time by taking down the mighty New York Yankees. This victory, secured by a game-winning hit by Edgar Martínez to drive Ken Griffey Jr. home, is seen as keeping baseball alive in Seattle and a legendary moment in Mariners history. Although the Seattle franchise have never won a World Series championship, they're also one of two teams to have never played in one, alongside the Washington Nationals. They are, however, tied record holders with the Chicago Cubs for most wins in a season, which they accomplished in 2001 with 166 winning games. You could see this franchise on the way to its first World Series, or even be there at the main event! The only way to be sure is to buy or sell Seattle Mariners tickets via StubHub as soon as you can!
Impressive stats for Mariners pitchers
Major League Baseball saw its tenth no-hitter game in its history when lead pitcher Kevin Millwood stepped up with five other fellow pitchers for the Mariners. This was also the first no-hitter game in the club's history. Venezuelan-American pitcher Félix Hernández threw the first perfect game in his team's history in 2012, destroying the Tampa Bay Rays in Major League Baseball's 23rd perfect game. In the same year, the Mariners also fell victim to a perfect game against Philip Humber of the Chicago White Sox, the first time a team has been part of two perfect games in the same season.
