Record-breaking stats for one of baseball's hottest teams
To add to the list, the Giants are one of the oldest baseball teams in America. They were originally formed as the New York Gothams in Manhattan, 1883, and were the first Major League team in New York. They became the New York Giants three years later. A move to sunny California and the great city of San Francisco came in 1958, where they would begin competing in the National League West division. As of 2018, the Giants had 23 National League titles to their name and have taken part in the World Series 20 times, eight of them coming out victorious. Their first title came in 1905 against the Philadelphia Athletics, who would later become the Oakland Athletics of today. The Giants' eight World Series wins puts them fourth overall, behind the Boston Red Sox and Oakland Athletics (9), the St. Louis Cardinals (11) and, of course, the Yankees (27). It'll take some doing to catch up to the Yankees, but the rest are in clear sight! See them chase down that second spot with San Francisco Giants tickets available to buy or sell via StubHub now!
Classic rivalry with the LA Dodgers
Widely regarded as one of the most heated and aged rivalries in baseball, tensions between the Giants and the Dodgers began in the late 1800s. Situated in Manhattan, the Giants played at the famous Polo Grounds, one of three major stadiums on the island. At this time, Brooklyn, then the home of the Dodgers, was a separate city to New York (it became an official borough in 1898) and thus the intense competition was ingrained. At the end of the 1957 season, Walter O'Malley, owner of the Dodgers, decided to move his team to LA. He also persuaded the owner of the Giants, Horace Stoneham, to do the same to preserve the rivalry. Stoneham was planning on moving his club to Minnesota, yet chose to follow O'Malley and the Dodgers. The poor sports fans of New York were naturally mortified, with only the Yankees left to support in their city. As such, the New York Mets were formed. All baseball games are giant American spectacles, but if you catch this one, it'll be something else! Check out the schedule with San Francisco Giants tickets here to buy or sell on StubHub!
