Born into a Jamaican family in Liverpool in the mid-80s, this future talent show star always had ambitions of a musical career. As well as one of the most soulful voices on the UK music scene, she is also a qualified legal sectary and puts her immense ambition and drive down to wanting to be a good role model for her two children. It wasn't until the seventh series of the ITV talent show The X Factor that her big break came. From her first audition it was clear that the judging panel saw something great in her voice, saying that she had a "recording voice" and that she was "our generation's songbird". The rising star got to the final round of the competition, where she sang 'Beautiful' with the American pop superstar Christina Aguilera. She eventually finished as the first female runner up on the programme to winner Matt Cardle, and won a deal with Syco Music afterwards, with her debut album Heaven arriving the following year.
