With his mop of thick wavy hair and air of indie cool, Jonny Borrell embodies the mid 2000s popular musician. Following his endeavors as an acoustic solo artist supporting bands such as The Libertines, Johnny Borrell formed Razorlight in 2002 in an attempt to emulate the success of other guitar driven bands Oasis and The Strokes. Capitalising on the growing popularity of the indie pop-rock musical fusion, Razorlight have proven themselves a credible and resilient force to be reckoned with, and return with their first record in 10 years in 2018. Razorlight: cultivating the Golden Touch

Initially recording demos at London's Toe Rag Studio, which led to radio buzz, Razorlight were signed to Mercury Records in 2003 and released their first studio album in the summer of 2004. Up All Night received critical acclaim and the 2005 re-release featured the successful single "Somewhere Else", which reached number two on the UK charts and was hailed for its shimmering, acoustic-driven emotional offerings.

Razorlight released their self-titled sophomore album in 2006; while some warmed to the softer, radio-friendly Razorlight songs, critics accused the band of diluting their sound to achieve mass appeal. Regardless, Razorlight proved commercially successful with the song "America" peaking at number one on the UK charts. The subsequent 2008 Razorlight album Slipway Fires failed to match the success of the band's first two studio endeavors, but after a line-up reshuffle the band continues to release and perform the distinctive Razorlight music fans have come to love.

Along with lead singer and guitarist Johnny Borrell, the current lineup of the band consists of drummer David Sullivan Kaplan, guitarist Dave Ellis and bassist João Mello, with the quartet announcing new album Olympus Sleeping for 2018.
