During that decade, the team appeared regularly in the EAIAW regional women's basketball tournaments. In the '80s, '90s and early to mid-2000s, the Panthers also made numerous appearances in the Women's National Invitation Tournament. Finally, in 2007, the team appeared for the first time in an NCAA tournament, and in 2013, the Panthers became members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Many fine players came out of the Pitt Panther's basketball club, including Shavonte Zellous, who became the 13th player in Big East history to score 2,000 points. Zellous would eventually head to the WNBA, where she would win many accolades, such as the Most Improved Player in 2013. The Panthers also produced Lorri Johnson. Johnson is the team's all-time highest scorer. In 2019, she was inducted into the Pitt Hall of Fame.
