The Ducks first took the baseball field in 1877, just one year after the university's founding. Since then, the Ducks have earned a 1,417-1,010-8 record for a .584 winning percentage. In conference play, it is a 613-590 all-time for a .510 winning percentage. The team has won 17 titles in the Pac-12's Northern Division. With 23 former Ducks playing professional baseball, including six major leaguers, the 2019-20 team has a high standard to meet. After finishing 27-29 in 2018-19, with a ninth-place finish in the Pac-12, the Ducks look to return to recent glory that saw the team make the NCAA regionals four years in a row between 2012 and 2015. Who is the Oregon Ducks' head baseball coach?Mark Wasikowski is the 13th University of Oregon head baseball coach. He takes over for George Horton, who is credited with 375 wins in 11 seasons as the Ducks' head coach. Horton coached 20 All-American players and saw 84 of his charges graduate during his tenure. Wasikowski returns to Oregon after spending three seasons at Purdue. He was an assistant at Oregon for five years before departing for Purdue. During Wasikowski's first season at Purdue, the team's record improved by 19 wins. His 2018 Purdue team won 39 games and advanced to the NCAA Regional for just the third time in Purdue baseball history. Wasikowski has coached teams that produced 133 players drafted to play professionally and 38 who have played in the major leagues. He has an overall 88-83 record as a head coach. He is considered a strong recruiter whose classes regularly rank among the top 25 in the nation. He was the primary recruiting coordinator for Arizona's 2012 national championship team.
Where do the Oregon Ducks play their home baseball games?PK Park has been the Ducks' home field since February of 2009. Since then, the team has a home field record of 210-120 for a .636 home winning percentage. PK Park is designed for 4,000 baseball fans. However, 4,825 Ducks fans packed the Park for an NCAA Super Regional game against Kent State on June 11, 2012. The stadium features 3,000 fixed seats and a party plaza known as "Fowl Territory." PK Park is designed around an intimate, covered seating bowl. The field surface is all-weather FieldTurf with clay pitching mounds and bullpens.
What was the Oregon Ducks' 2019 baseball record?The Ducks opened the 2019 season on a strong note, defeating an eighth-ranked Texas Tech team that eventually advanced to the College World Series. Oregon won nine of its first 14 games before opening Pac-12 play. During the conference season, the Ducks swept Utah and defeated top-20 teams Arizona State and in-state rival Oregon State. Their eventual 10-19 record included a 4-12 mark against ranked opponents. Two Ducks were named to the Pac-12 All-Conference team, and six were named to the conference's All-Academic squad.
How many Oregon Ducks play pro baseball?Of the 23 former Ducks playing professional baseball following the 2019 season, six are in the major leagues. Tyler Anderson, Garrett Cleavinger, Kyle Garlick, Ryon Healy, Scott Heineman and Cole Irvin appear on big-league rosters. Two more have taken the field for major league clubs. Stephen Nogosek, drafted out of Oregon in 2016, played briefly for the New York Mets. Jimmie Sherfy, a two-time Ducks All-American honoree, played for the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2018. In total, four former Ducks are on Triple-A rosters. Four play for Double-A teams, two are in Class-A (Advanced) and three play for Class-A squads. Four former Ducks play at the rookie ball level.
