Nottingham Playhouse - from the classics to modern plays
Inaugurated in 1948, the Nottingham Playhouse was designed by Peter Moro, the architect who also designed the Royal Festival Hall. He created a modern-style theatre on the outside, while the inside was kept more traditional with a proscenium layout. The first play that was hosted there was Coriolanus, which is a Shakespeare story that had been adapted into a theatre production. Overt the next 70 years the Nottingham Playhouse went on to become the home of a large range of classic and more modern theatre plays, such as "1984", "Chicken Soup with Barley" and in 2013 "The Kite Runner", which became the best-selling production in the drama genre up to that point. That same year, the Arts Council England awarded the venue a sum of money to help fund an energy efficiency upgrade. The theatre celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2018, and the highlight production of that season was The Madness of George III. You too can watch exquisite plays in this iconic theatre, so buy your Nottingham Playhouse tickets without delay.
A hub of artistic attractions
Over the years, the Nottingham Playhouse has had a few changes in artistic direction, with some of the directors including Stuart Burge, Richard Digby and, more recently, Adam Pendord. The theatre has hosted plays by some notable playwrights such as Stephen Lowe and Fiona Buffini, and has been the stage for important artists such as local Nottingham actress Vicky McClure and Mark Gatiss. But theatre isn’t the only art available to enjoy at the venue, as guests will also be able to admire a sculpture by Anish Kapoor which was installed in 2001. The work of art, which is entitled "Sky Mirror", won the "Nottingham Pride of Place" award in 2007 as voted for by the public. Enjoy art on many levels when you buy Nottingham Playhouse tickets to watch your favourite play, and StubHub will help you secure the best-available seats in the house.
