New York Mets Tickets
The New York Mets are simply 'Amazin'
The New York Metropolitans, otherwise known as the NY Mets, represent the National League East and are one of two professional baseball franchises in the city. This club, which was one of the first expansion teams in baseball, has also won several NL pennants and two World Series titles. New York Mets tickets are available now for purchase or for sale via StubHub.
New York Mets make their postseason mark
The New York Metropolitan Baseball Club was founded following the departure of the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Giants to California and joined the league during the Major League Baseball expansion of 1962. The team set an unwanted record in its rookie season in the majors, losing 120 of 162 games, however, after moving to Shea Stadium in 1964, the club's fortunes turned around. 1969 proved to be a breakout year for the new franchise, with ace pitcher Tom Seaver leading the team past the Atlanta Braves to notch its first post season victory and a showdown with Baltimore Orioles for the baseball championship. The Mets prevailed in five games over the Orioles to record one of the monumental upsets in the history of the sport, claiming their first post season title and earning the moniker 'the Miracle Mets'. Then in 1986, the Mets stormed the league, posting a 108-54 record and defeating the Houston Astros in the League Championship Series (LCS) to advance to their third World Series. 1986 immortality and the '2000 Subway Series'
The 1986 World Series versus the Boston Red Sox was another seven-game thriller that is remembered as much for the quality of play as the errors that led to the Mets winning the title with a team that boasted several Met heroes, including pitcher Dwight Gooden, outfielder Darryl Strawberry and captain Keith Hernandez. The Mets would not return to the postseason until 1999, when they bested the Cincinnati Reds in a tiebreaker but lost the LCS to Atlanta. The following year, a wild card entry would see the team into the playoffs, as they throttled the St. Louis Cardinals, earning a place in their fourth championship contest. The 2000 Fall Classic, an all-New York affair, has come to be known as 'the Subway Series' and is the last time the Mets featured in a post season finale to date, losing to the Yankees in five games. The Mets play their home games at Citi Field in Queens, New York and any game against arch-rivals Atlanta, Philadelphia or New York is worth the price of admission.
