Trivia

The members of My Baby formerly belonged to another group named The Souldiers, which consisted of Sofie van Dijck, Joost van Dijck, Cato van Dijck, Daniel Johnston, Chris Dros and Robin Baaren. In 2014, My Baby collaborated with Theatre Group Maastricht on a play about the life of singer Judee Sill. They have also toured with The Black Eyed Peas.

Band/Singer

Originally from the Netherlands, My Baby are a three-person band consisting of Miss Cato van Dijck, Daniel "Da Freez" Johnston and Joost "Sheik" van Dijck. Larry Graham discovered them in 2012. Miss Cato and Joost van Dijck, who are related, later joined with Daniel after the three left The Souldiers.

Breakthrough

After the release of their debut album and subsequent tour, My Baby were invited to tour with Henry Vrienten, who also asked the soul/funk band to play on his album, And Still, which was released in 2014. That same year, the band were nominated for Best Live Act at the Radio 6 Soul and Jazz Awards. The album My Baby Loves Voodoo! received a nomination for an Edison, a prestigious Dutch music award. In 2015, My Baby were asked to tour with Seasick Steve, an American blues musician.

Hit Albums

My Baby released their debut album My Baby Loves Voodoo! in 2015, which was produced by Embracer Recordings. The album was well received, and it allowed the band to take on a full-length tour that included stops as varied as Texas and Tokyo. 2015 saw the release of their latest album, Shamanaid, which is featured with the current tour. Popular tracks include "Got a Habit," "Out on Gin" and "Shameless.

Show Experience

It is difficult to describe the sound and experience of a My Baby concert, since their music moves from gentle beats to songs that dive with pulsating fury. Miss Cato's vocals are smooth, yet strong, and they pull you instantly into the song. Songs like "Seeing Red" and "Meet Me at the Wishing Well" somehow combine a bluesy, jazz-infused vibe that gets your toes tapping with electronic beats and what sounds like an acoustic guitar. Other songs, such as "Remedy," have a wilder feel, but they still incorporate the blues roots for which My Baby have become known.
