Every summer since 2013, the Jazz FM radio station presents the Love Supreme Jazz Festival, which takes place over three days at Glynde Place in East Sussex. The festival's founders aim to blend the format of a classic UK camping festival with the atmosphere and top-notch lineup of Europe's eminent jazz festivals. Four stages showcase big-name headliners and rising stars in jazz, soul, funk and blues.

Love Supreme Jazz Festival's history

The Love Supreme Jazz Festival, named after the seminal John Coltrane album A Love Supreme, had its inaugural year in 2013. The headliners of that first event were Bryan Ferry and The Bryan Ferry Orchestra and Jools Holland. The second annual festival brought to the stage Jamie Cullum, Earth, Wind & Fire, De La Soul, Imelda May and Soul II Soul. In 2015 the lineup featured a bona fide super star in Van Morrison, as well as Chaka Khan, Lisa Stansfield and Candi Staton. The biggest names on 2016's bill were Grace Jones, Burt Bacharach and Esperanza Spalding. With headliners The Jacksons, comprising Jackie, Tito, Jermaine and Marlon; legendary pianist and 14-time Grammy Award-winner Herbie Hancock; and prodigious guitarist and singer-songwriter George Benson, plus others, the 2017 Love Supreme Jazz Festival continued the event's growing legacy.

The Love Supreme Jazz Festival experience

The Love Supreme Jazz Festival continues to bring a diverse range of impressive performers on four stages. The Main Stage showcases headliners and contemporary artists, such as 2017 headliners Corinne Bailey Rae and George Benson. British and international jazz artists perform on the Big Top stage, and on The Arena stage is an eclectic lineup of up-and-coming artists, plus dynamic DJ sets. Regional jazz performers play on The Bandstand, hosted by the Verdict Jazz Club.

In addition to live performances, the Love Supreme Jazz Festival presents film screenings, dance classes, lectures and talks, club nights, panel discussions and classic album paybacks. There is also a fun kids' area, a food village with a wide array of street food vendors, a wellness area and series of after parties.

Day tickets and weekend tickets with camping are available. Festival-goers who do not wish to camp can arrange accommodations in Brighton, approximately 20 minutes' drive away. Upgraded packages, called Love Supremium tickets, give day ticket-holders access to an exclusive part of the festival site and priority car park, and camping ticket-holders access to VIP camping facilities in a quieter location, as well as complimentary trolley use.
