Linkin Park's new album One More Light
Having deeply polarised their fanbase, Linkin Park's latest album has certainly sparked discussion among fans and critics alike. Whatever the opinion, it's hard to deny that the band's new pop sensibilities have undoubtedly earned them a spot debuting in at Billboard's number one slot. Featuring a more polished and produced sound, One More Light also features collaborations from the likes of Kiiara, Pusha T and Stormzy. Suffice to say, it's understandable that Linkin Park's fans are more than a little miffed at Linkin Park's departure from nu-metal (or metal altogether), while a number of rock critics have been more than a little harsh at Linkin Park's attempt. Of course, on the flipside, Linkin Park's success has proved the band have tapped into a new fanbase altogether, and while reviews maybe occasionally tough, the band's sound has certainly brought to the fore fans of artists such as DJ Snake, and even Justin Bieber's new work.
Linkin Park Biography
Growing up in Arizona, social outsider Chester Bennington survived on a sonic diet of Depeche Mode and Stone Temple Pilots before taking the first steps in becoming a professional musician in the 1990s. Using his voice to vent his pent up emotions, Chester went on to form the band Xero, who changed their name to Hybrid Theory before honing their sound to become the Linkin Park audiences know and love today.
Marrying elements of rap and metal, their synth-heavy sound was characterised by quietly brooding lyrics and Chester's vociferous vocal power. In 2000, their debut LP Hybrid Theory became an instant classic, going on to receive rave reviews and top polls as the best album of the year. Tracks like 'One Step Closer' ordered the world to "shut up" yet drew in thousands of fans, cementing the act as one of the hard rock staples of the new millennium. Despite its alternative content, songs from the album appeared on soundtracks to blockbuster movies including Transformers, Little Nicky and The Matrix. The album earned Linkin Park a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance, catapulting the boys to mainstream success on both sides of the Atlantic.
Spilling over two decades, their eclectic discography doesn't sit perfectly within one genre, instead of attracting a myriad of fans with a wealth of music preferences. They even teamed up with hip-hop legend Jay-Z in one of the most unusual collaborations of the 2000s on their Collision Course EP. Fancy seeing Chester Bennington and company in an amazing live music performance, then make sure to buy Linkin Park tickets now found here at StubHub.
