The Houston Astros are one of two Major League Baseball teams from the state of Texas and over the last few years, they have developed into one of the powerhouse teams of American baseball, the country's national pastime. Coming off their 2017 World Series title, this team is hungry for more glory. Houston Astros tickets are available now for purchase or sale via StubHub.
The origins of the Houston Astros began with the Houston Buffaloes and their path to American baseball's National League in 1962, at which point the team was renamed The Colt .45s. The first games of that era were a three-game set played against the Chicago Cubs, which the Colt .45s won 3-0, but despite this auspicious debut, the team could do no better than the second half of the league table. The Colt .45s' transformation into the Houston Astros occurred in 1964 and coincided with the opening of the iconic Houston Astrodome, the world's first domed stadium, where they would compete against the likes of Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres and St. Louis Cardinals. In 1966, the Astrodome introduced yet another sports innovation with the introduction of 'Astroturf' (artificial grass), however, despite the new stadium, new moniker and the revolutionary new pitch, the team's fortunes failed to meet the expectations of their fans and it was another twenty years before they stood on the cusp of a title. Hall of Fame player Joe Morgan was the talisman that ignited the Houston Astros team of 1980, led by an ace pitching staff with Joe Niekro among its ranks. That year, the team found itself in the National League Championship Series against the Philadelphia Phillies for the right to advance to the World Series. The series against the Phillies was hard fought, with four of the five games going to extra innings but in the end, Philadelphia prevailed 3-2. From this point on, the Astros became one of the best in the National League. They turned yet another corner in their journey with the new Enron Field in 2000, and just five years later, they found themselves in their first World Series, losing 4-0 to the Chicago Cubs. In 2013, The Houston Astros joined the American League after forty years in the Nationals in a major realignment of the sport. Four years later, the Astros contested their second World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, winning their first title in a thrilling seventh game. Houston Astros tickets are ready now to buy or sell via StubHub.
