Experience the rich, silky jazz voice of Gregory Porter
Looking at a mature Gregory Porter it's not hard to imagine that he was given a full athletics scholarship to play American football, but sport's loss was definitely music's gain, as he's become a superb jazz and blues singer. He has a rich voice that was clearly born to the manor, as it were, but even so he had to take the hard road to the success that has seen him winning at the Grammy Awards for Best Jazz Vocal Album. If you're not already a fan, go and buy or sell Gregory Porter tickets on StubHub and join in the acclaim.
An instinct for singing jazz and blues
Gregory Porter mixes plenty of gospel and soul into his music as well; as with many jazz and blues singers, this is a reflection of his upbringing in California, the son of a mother who was a pastor. When she beseeched him virtually on her deathbed to realise his vocal talents, and after an injury put paid to any chance of a professional sporting career, he moved to Brooklyn in New York and started singing in small night clubs while working as a waiter in some of them at the same time. By taking this traditional route he made sure to pay his dues in a way that would gain the approval of his long list of musical heroes in jazz history. It wasn't long, however, before his prodigious vocal abilities and innate feel for the songs earned him recognition in the jazz world, and his third album, "Liquid Spirit", won him the aforementioned Grammy. After that, a somewhat incongruous but successful appearance at Glastonbury Festival in 2016 cemented his international popularity on the live stage, and he swiftly moved on to the UK festival and TV show circuit from there, as the subsequent proliferation of Gregory Porter tickets can attest to.
Staying true to the old classics
Gregory Porter has remained committed to showcasing and reviving older forms of jazz in his career – his cover album of Nat King Cole standards serving as an example. To promote the album he took to the TV stage on the "Graham Norton Show", giving a memorable performance accompanied by Jeff Goldblum on the piano. His traditional-style jazz and blues ballads will transport you to another, more romantic era, and he cuts a distinctive figure on the live stage with his characteristic deerstalker-style headgear. Gregory Porter tickets promise an evening of transcendent delights that you don't need to be a fan of either jazz or blues to enjoy – get yours right here on StubHub.
