Frisco RoughRiders TicketsThe Frisco RoughRiders team is the Double-A minor league affiliate of the Texas Rangers. Though it was established in 2003, Frisco is hardly the first Texas League team to set up shop in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Up until 1970, the city was the home of the Steers, Eagles, Giants, Spurs and many more. After getting off to a hot start, the RoughRiders earned a berth in the Texas League championship series in its first year, losing to the San Antonio Missions 4-1. The team then had a stellar sophomore season, which culminated in the 2004 championship with a 4-1 series victory against the Round Rock Express. It also appeared in the 2008 and 2012 championship series, losing to Arkansas and Springfield, respectively. Frisco has served as an important stop for many notable major league players, including Elvis Andrus and Adrian Gonzalez. What are some of the top games on the upcoming schedule?Frisco opens up the 2020 regular season with an away series against Tulsa on April 9th. Tulsa goes to Frisco in the season opening home game on April 16th. This marks the start of a long home stand against Arkansas and Corpus Christi that lasts until April 26th. Frisco then has two major home stands against Midland between May 5th and 7th and again between May 11th and 14th, followed by another major home stand between June 8th and 14th against Amarillo and Corpus Christi. Between July 15th and 20th, Frisco has a long home stretch against North Division opponents such as Arkansas and Northwest Arkansas. The season concludes with a home stand between September 1st and 7th against more North Division teams: Springfield and Northwest Arkansas.
How did Frisco finish last season?Frisco finished the 2019 season as the third place team of the South Division with a record of 68-71, five games back of the division winner. The team did not make the playoffs. It did have several standout performers, however. Among players with at least 100 at bats, Juremi Profar had the highest batting average at .290, while Andretty Cordero led the team with 16 homeruns. Starting pitcher Walker Weickel had a 7-2 record with a 3.63 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP.
Who is Frisco’s biggest rival? The Frisco RoughRiders team shares a rivalry with its fellow Texas teams within the league: the Corpus Christi Hooks and the Midland Rockhounds. The Hooks team is the minor league affiliate of the Houston Astros, the rivals of the Texas Rangers.
Who is Frisco’s manager?Bobby Wilson became the manager of the RoughRiders on Dec. 9, 2019. After being picked in the 48th round of the draft by the Anaheim Angels, Wilson spent 16 years in professional baseball as a catcher. He was a member of several major league teams, including the Detroit Tigers, Texas Rangers, Tampa Bay Rays, Minnesota Twins and Arizona Diamondbacks. This assignment is his first as a manager at any level.
What is the venue like?Dr. Pepper Ballpark, which opened in 2003, has a capacity of more than 10,000 spectators, including 26 luxury suites and numerous ADA seating. The record attendance of 12,067 was set at a July 20, 2018, game on Dude Perfect Night. Awarded Best Ballpark Improvements three times by Ballpark Digest, the venue features a high-definition video board, the Bull Moose Saloon and the famous Choctaw Lazy River — a 174-foot river-shaped pool winding its way through the stands of the ballpark.
